The coming Spring-Summer season marks the triumphant return of Bulgari’s wraparound sunglasses. Celebrating their rediscovered charm is the Starlight line, a collection with a dual soul: one more glamorous, accentuated by an exquisite removable brooch, and the other more sporty, as embodied by the bold simplicity of the circular Bulgari Bulgari insert. In a nod to the “convertible jewels” of the finest Italian jewellery tradition, Bulgari craftsmen have created a unique flower in the form of a star, embellished by crystals juxtaposed with pink and yellow gold as well as the silver of the metallic parts, and is integrated perfectly into the temples. The wraparound lenses lend further mystery to the beauty of Rachel Weisz, the face of the Eyewear ad campaign that will be on air from the next Spring.
The wraparound, featuring an exclusive caramel tint with slightly metallic nuances, is the guiding theme of a mini collection of eyewear that celebrates some of Bulgari’s most iconic and admired creations. The parenthesis and fan motifs, as well as the reproduction of the jewel-closure of the “Isabella Rossellini” bag that inspired the Icona eyeglass model, are inserted between the temples and lenses, which shimmer from the light of the crystals used as the main decorative element. The lenses feature a grey fade finish.
Enriching the latest collection is an exclusive Special Edition, an homage to the stylistic lexicon of Bulgari jewellery, particularly the brilliant cut that recurs in so many of the brand’s finest creations. The key feature is an exquisite square insert adorned with a series of faceted crystals in different tonalities that evoke aquamarine, yellow and blue topaz and peridot. A circular motif at the hinge of the temples is also decorated with crystals.
There are a number of variants: from elegant oversize wraparounds to maxi rims in pearly tones of black and white to prescription frames in acetate with small, rectangular rims.
Bulgari celebrates the Year of the Snake with a new line of sunglasses that pay homage to the iconic Serpenti watch-bracelets in coloured enamel from the 1960s. Large multicoloured scales evoke the skin of imaginary serpents with bold chromatic accents taken from original archival sketches or pieces in the Bulgari Heritage collection, running the length of the temples. The rims are wide and butterflied, in tones that range from emerald green and black to ivory and brown, in order to bring out the most in the enamels. Among the more iconic declensions is the black model with gold, white and black scales, graciously donned by actress Rachel Weisz in a shot from the very latest Serpenti campaign.
All the new items in the Spring-Summer 2013 accessories collection will go on sale at Bulgari stores and authorized dealers in Fall 2012.
