From the 20 – 23 May, Peru exhibited at the Dubai World Trade Centre with a national pavilion showcasing leading Peruvian home decor products in the design of a house.
The inspiration behind Peruvian design comes from four main pillars: refinement, nature, rhythm and life. Peru is an evocative blend of past and present, and the interior design at Peru Home incorporates those ancestral techniques, with handmade production, and exclusive designs reflecting current home decor market trends. The Latin-American country is influenced by a rich Inca and Colonial heritage and its biodiverse nature offers an abundance of resources. Peruvian life is a melting pot of many different cultures, beliefs and traditions creating colourful artistic expressions.
At Peru Home, hand-woven ancestral textiles, rich in colours, styles and techniques will be displayed, often incorporating geometric designs, much like in the Arab world. Unique ceramics reflecting elements of the Andean culture, basketry using a rich variety of plant fibres, decorative wooden furniture, and colourful painted glass will be amongst the selection of the Peruvian charms on display.
PromPeru has been leading a campaign this month in the UAE to demonstrate its ever-growing position as one of the world’s most preferred long-haul travel destinations, steeped in history, with mountains, jungles, coastlines, deserts and boasting award-winning cuisine. It has also now caught the attention of interior design importers in the UAE, many of whom went on a buying trip to the capital Lima this year.
Alvaro Silva-Santisteban, Director of PromPeru, the Trade, Tourism & Investment Office of Peru in Dubai commented: “Our crafts date back to the beginning of everything and are a collision of our many vibrant cultures, which challenge the imagination. From wooden art to magical pieces of glass, from handmade fabrics to ancestral mirrors and ceramics, Peru Home is a blend that embraces heritage with modernity.”
