26TH JUNE HONG KONG JEWELLERY & GEM FAIR WELCOMES RECORD NUMBERS OF EXHIBITORS AND VISITORS

6JG13HKJGF_LogoThe June Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair (June Fair) concluded as a record breaker on 23 June at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC), with overseas visitor attendance up about 5 percent from 2012. The June Fair welcomed 25,925 visitors from 113 countries and regions and 1,841 exhibitors from 37 countries and regions – both new records for the Fair.

This year, the Fair opened up Chancellor Room on level 4 of HKCEC to accommodate more gemstones exhibitors. The Fair showcased a wide range of quality fine jewellery and jewellery-related materials in over 64,000 square metres of exhibition space. “The June Fair’s growth in exhibition space, exhibitor numbers and visitor numbers is a tangible testimony to the strong position the Fair enjoys globally as the key mid-year marketplace for international jewellers,” said Celine Lau, Director of Jewellery Fairs, UBM Asia.

Below is a detailed account of the visitor numbers at the Fair from 20 to 23 June:

– The total number of visitors over four days reached 25,925. These visitors, from 113 countries and regions, made 46,574 visits during the Fair period.

– Hong Kong-based visitors totaled 10,174, accounting for 39 percent of the total number of visitors. The rest of the visitors, 15,751, or 61 percent of the overall total, were from overseas.

Ms Lau continued: “The robust jewellery markets in Asia are filling some of the gap brought about by the weakness in the European and US markets. The June Fair offers jewellers the platform to tap into these market performers. This year, we again saw a double-digit growth in the number of buyers from the mainland China: 8,029, up about 15 percent from last edition. This figure illustrates the continued strength of the country’s jewellery market and its potential for further growth.  What was even more encouraging was the growth in visitor attendance from Vietnam, Ukraine and the Russian Federation of 104, 39 and 23 percent, respectively. We also had notable growth in visitor numbers from Korea, India, Indonesia, Myanmar, Switzerland and South Africa. These markets are playing a bigger role as jewellery consumers.”
