The Gems, Jewelry and Precious Metal Confederation of Thailand (GJPCT), The Thai Gem and Jewelry Traders Association (TGJTA) and the Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP) collectively proclaim that the upcoming 52nd Bangkok Gems and Jewelry Fair (BGJF) is regarded as “Gems and Jewelry Gateway to AEC.” During the glamorous press conference at Bangkok Shangri-la Hotel’s grand ballroom on August 21th 2013, the organizer has announced good news for this edition of the fair that the government announced the exemption of 20 percent tax on imported gems and jewelry products to be sold at the fair.
Beside strong support from the Thai government for the launch of the Gate way to ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) of the Bangkok Gems and Jewelry Fair, the “2nd ASEAN Gems and Jewelry Presidents’ Summit” will be held in parallel connectivity.The summit will enhance a strong initiative to push through the growth and future cooperation of gems and jewelry industries in the region.
Meanwhile, the fair will host over 1,800 local and international exhibitors in 8 major product categories and is expected to welcome more than 30,000 buyers from 125 countries along its 5 days.
The Government supported initiatives Begin with good news brought by the DITP Director-General Mrs. Srirat Rastapana, the government will waive tax on gems and jewelry that will be sold in the 52nd BGJF, in a move to boost Thailand as the world’s hub of gem and jewelry. The policy will allow foreign exhibitors to bring in and sell gems and jewelry duty-free, while local exhibitors will be able to save on imported parts and products, thus gives buyers more purchasing power since they will not have to pay 20 percent of tax. She also underscored the importance of the AEC which will provide bright prospects for Thailand’s gems and jewelry industry as it penetrates the ASEAN market in 2015. This will be greatest opportunities for Thai Gems and Jewelry to lead in the world’s market.
In addition, the Director-General expressed her pleasure thanks to the TGJTA and related agencies helps sustain Thailand’s status as both regional and international leader of gem manufacturing industry. “The 52nd BGJF will be the most special fair and the government commits to further strengthening the existing cooperation” The President’s speech According to Mr. Somchai Phornchindarak, President of the Gems, Jewelry and Precious Metal Confederation of Thailand (GJPCT), and the Thai Gem and Jewelry Traders Association (TGJTA), the 2nd ASEAN+6 Gems & Jewelry Presidents’ Summit which will be held during 52nd BGJF will imply Thailand to be the hub of world gems and jewelry in the very near future.

The President also points out that the new Duty Free privilege will be another big highlight at the fair. Thanks to the hard work of the GJPCT, the TGJTA and the government sectors, the long-awaited scheme is coming into reality during the 52nd BGJF. Mr. Somchai believes the scheme will boost up the fair’s competitiveness and the entire industry in Thailand as a large number of buyers will flock to enjoy it.
The CEO’s prospects Mr. Suttipong Damrongsakul, CEO of the 52nd BGJF Organizing Committee claimed to believe as for AEC 2015, the foreign investors and dialogue partners in the gems and jewelry industry will bene fi t from using Thailand as the gateway to single market and a base for 600 million consumers.
In addition, the 52nd BGJF will present the “Design Pavilion” with a special embellishment of the upcoming 2015 AEC’s design trends into international gems and jewelry fashion, together with a series of activities such as the elegant fashion shows by Thailand’s top models with largest fashion jewelry, academic seminars to discuss business development updates and special exhibits such as the “Factory Outlet” zone to show a wide range of fi ne products. At this stage running on its 30th year, the 52nd BGJF will be held at the Challenger Halls of the IMPACT Arena Muang Thong Thani from September 6 to 10, 2013.
