One may reflect on the beauty of colours in nature as in gemstones. There is yet another field in which colours play a prominent role. This field is art.
Such is very much the case in the paintings and watercolours by Veit Helmut Goris. COLLECTION Magazine was treated to an exclusive showing at his gallery and workshop in the Haupstrasse at Idar-Oberstein.
A former gemstone designer for a renowned company, Veit Helmut, who goes by the name of ‘Charly’, has drawn and painted since his childhood.
Now retired from professional life, Goris has all the time and leisure to explore his talent in various artistic disciplines. Yet, he will tell you: “I am not an artist”… as he wants to leave it to the public how he and his work are perceived.
Make no mistake – it is not nature, not his profound understanding and extensive knowledge of exceptional gems that inspire him today. Although the structure in some paintings seem to refer to the structure and form of crystals and a few of his sculptures in stone and metal hold a rare beryl gemstone.
It is “from Bauch aus”, that gut-feeling, or what is in his head, that Veit Helmut wants to translate on canvas or handmade paper, be it in layers of oilpaint, acrylic or more subtle aquarelle. Virtuosic with colours, warm shades, in mostly abstract paintings, or, changing styles, in more geographic naïve scenes, his work is rich, intense, meaningful without words. The large size painting in two parts at his workshop is a fine example of how this ‘artist’ expresses himself about the inner core and strength of our being. Heartwarming, soulsearching to say the least.
No wonder that these paintings and sculptures find new homes in various corners of the world… Beyond borders, Veit Helmut Goris’ art work is of universal beauty and appeal. www.vh-goris.de
