Founded in 1883 and famous for its iconic red triangle, Alpina is a Swiss watch manufacturer based in Geneva. The brand set out to design luxury sports watches offering exceptional accuracy and reliability in the most challenging sporting environments, like the Alps.
A true pioneer of the watchmaking industry, Alpina has been the source of numerous patents and innovative calibres over the past 138 years. At the beginning of the 20th century, Alpina became the official supplier of watches to military pilots, before revolutionising the concept of sports watches in 1938 with the legendary Alpina 4.
Alpina renewed its partnership with the Freeride World Tour for the fifth consecutive year.
In 2023, the world’s best athletes will return for the 16th version of the Freeride World Tour’s iconic series, ready to push the limits of what’s possible in the high mountains in their quest for the sport’s ultimate prize.
Sharing the same passion for adventure, Alpina and the FWT have been partnering since 2018, helping freeride athletes achieve their goal of mastering some of the most challenging lines the mountains have to offer. As the Official partner and Timekeeper of the FWT, Alpina also supports the Swedish athlete Max Palm, new member of Alpina’s Alpinists team.
Freeride rising star and new Alpina athlete Max Palm
Born in 2002, Max Palm is already one of the most decorated skiers, whilst being only twenty years old. With a three time Scandinavian Big Mountain Champion as mother and a mountain guide as father, Max was raised within the ski universe and surrounded by mountains. As a child already, his Swedish parents explained to him how to leverage the typical Scandinavian hard-charging skiing and combine it with the big mountain knowledge and style known from the Alps region.
Freeride World Tour 2023
This year’s schedule boasts five stops in five different countries, with two finals events and a two-run format in Fieberbrunn, where riders’ top score will count towards their result. To up the pressure even more, and to reward those with the nerves – and legs – of steel, 12,500 points for first place (instead of 10,000) will again be up for grabs in the FWT finals events. Who can tame Verbier’s Bec des Rosses and Fieberbrunn’s Wildseeloder to maximize their chance of being crowned the champ? Time will tell. Until then, let’s check out the world-class venues on offer for FWT23:
- Kicking Horse Golden BC, Canada: January 13th-18th, 2023
- Baqueira Beret, Spain: January 28th – February 2nd, 2023
- Ordino Arcalís, Andorra: February 4th – 9th, 2023
- Fieberbrunn, Austria: March 11th-17th, 2023
- Xtreme Verbier, Switzerland: March 25th – April 2nd, 2023
The Grand Finale returns to the undisputed home of freeride, the Bec des Rosses at Verbier, Switzerland. Unrideable to most mere mortals, athletes not only tame this beast year after year, but turn it into their playground, consistently combining new line variations with death-defying stunts. To mark the occasion, Alpina will set up a viewing zone at the arrival of the Bec des Rosses to welcome guests and let them enjoy the competition in a privileged area.
