THE JOURNEY OF CHRISTINE SALEH JAMIL

…Exploring Emotions Through Art

Christine Saleh Jamil, a London-based artist born in 1973, has always had a profound connection with the world of art. From a young age, she found expression in the vibrant world of creativity, experimenting with various mediums and techniques including watercolours, ink, acrylics, and oil on canvas.

For Christine, painting is more than just a form of artistic expression, it’s a journey of self-discovery and emotional exploration. In her own words, “To paint is a way to connect with my inner self.” While words may falter in conveying the depth of her emotions, Christine finds solace in the colors and strokes of her artwork, making each piece a reflection of her innermost feelings that reside within her.

Nature serves as a constant muse for Christine, inspiring her creative endeavors and fueling her passion for art. Her love for the natural world infuses her work with a sense of organic beauty and serenity. Through her preferred medium of oil on canvas, Christine brings her visions to life, capturing the world around her in breathtaking details.

Drawing inspiration from fellow artists whom she admires, honed through years of practice, consistency, and relentless pursuit of artistic excellence; each painting is a reflection of her personal journey and a visual narrative that speaks directly to the soul of the viewer.

Through her art, Christine invites viewers to embark on a journey of self-discovery, inviting them to explore the depths of their own emotions and find consolation in the beauty of the world around them. With each new painting, she invites us to see the world through her eyes, offering a glimpse into the boundless depths of the human soul.

THE WANDERER

THE WANDERER

Medium: Oil / Acrylic on Canvas

Size: 55 W x 45 H cm

The artwork is based on a photographic portrait taken in the late 1980s of Gibran Khalil Gibran in Boston. This piece was inspired by my reading of the latest book by Paul Gordon Chandler titled “In Search of a Prophet”. The book really made an impact on me, introducing me to the spiritual life of Gibran Khalil Gibran. It affected me deeply and took me back to the Beirut of my childhood. This is why I choose to portray Gibran as a young man amidst nature (which Gibran cherished). I have placed him among Birch trees, which I love as well.

Exhibited (at Sotheby’s) @sothebys 2018 inspired by Gibran’s message of peace and love

“one of my favourite and most special paintings.” “My intention was that my painting Hope would give the observer the same feelings I experienced, the impulse to find hope in even the most difficult circumstances.” I spontaneously chose my eye colour for her left eye because I felt deeply connected to her. I do not know the girl, but from the moment I saw her photo I felt her fear, her sadness, her hopes for a peaceful and better future.
