MILANO FASHION&JEWELS: A GLOBAL HUB FOR CREATIVITY AND BUSINESS GROWTH

The recently concluded Milano Fashion&Jewels 2024, held from 14 to 17 September at Fieramilano Rho, alongside other significant events like MICAM Milano, MIPEL, and The One Milano, attracted 40,950 trade visitors from 140 countries. Milano Fashion&Jewels brought together over 650 brands, 50% of which hailed from 37 different countries, showcasing the very best in creativity, craftsmanship, and sustainability.

This edition marked an important reflection of the industry’s resilience in the face of global market volatility and economic challenges. With cross-border sales growing by 6% in 2024 and an additional projected acceleration of 7% for the period 2025-2027, Milano Fashion&Jewels continues to be a crucial space for business development and international expansion. Key markets driving this growth include North America, Japan, and parts of Europe, with the fair serving as an essential forum for operators in the fashion and jewelry sectors to forge new partnerships and explore emerging trends.

The diversity of the event brought together industry leaders from countries such as India, Turkey, China, Mauritius, Brazil, and various European nations. This international representation not only highlighted the global appeal of the event but also offered a comprehensive view of the cultural and creative diversity shaping the future of jewelry and fashion accessories.

A core theme running through Milano Fashion&Jewels 2024 was innovation, with a strong focus on sustainability and forward-looking trends. The fair provided a glimpse into the future of fashion through its partnerships with young designers, educational institutions, and established brands. Collaborations with Poli.Design and IED Milano commit to nurture young talents, with 13 students from IED Milano’s Masters in Fashion Design program showcasing collections centered on creative upcycling.

The Visionaires and Design Direction spaces, created also in collaboration with Poli.Design, offered an immersive journey into future trends in jewelry and fashion accessories. The two key macro trends identified, BeautyPure and AdoraBold, promised to shape the industry over the next two years. BeautyPure emphasized minimalistic, geometric designs that resonate with younger audiences seeking elegance, while AdoraBold embraced maximalist, bold styles reminiscent of 1980s glamour, featuring sculptural earrings and rings designed to make a statement.

Artisanal craftsmanship was another key highlight of the fair, with many exhibitors presenting collections that fused traditional techniques with modern aesthetics. The focus on “artisanal intelligence”, the idea that the heritage and craftsmanship behind each piece are essential elements of its identity, was evident throughout the exhibition.

Sustainability took center stage at Milano Fashion&Jewels, particularly within the Exploring Sustainable Fashion space curated by Sfashion-net founders Guya Manzoni and Marina Savarese. Eleven brands known for their commitment to ecological practices showcased apparel and accessories crafted with environmentally friendly processes. Moreover, the fair continued its own sustainability efforts, building on its 2022 commitment to measuring and reducing its carbon footprint, with the aim of progressively lowering CO2 emissions.

MFJ also offered a first look at the must-have fashion accessories and jewelry for 2025. Maximalism emerged as a dominant trend, marking a departure from the minimalist aesthetics of recent years. Oversized earrings, multiple statement rings, and bold, gold-plated designs are set to define the jewelry landscape next season. These pieces are designed to capture attention, reflecting the maximalist hedonism of the 1980s.

Fashion accessories, meanwhile, showcased a return to versatility. From ruffled scarves to cylindrical handbags, the season’s accessories promise to add a fresh twist to even the most basic outfits. Notably, the iconic hobo bag and furry, tactile accessories were among the highlights, catering to the growing demand for fashion items that are both practical and visually striking.

Beyond the exhibition space, Milano Fashion&Jewels hosted a series of talks, workshops, and masterclasses aimed at fostering discussion on the most pressing issues in the fashion and jewelry industries. Key topics included multi-channel marketing strategies, the rise of the Marketing Creator in place of the traditional influencer, and the increasing importance of color harmony in product presentation.

One of the highlights was the highly anticipated Master Class hosted in collaboration with Elle Italia, which explored key trends from international runways and offered insights into how retailers can translate these trends into concrete marketing and sales strategies.

In an era where sustainability, digitalization, and creativity are reshaping the fashion industry, Milano Fashion&Jewels stands out as a vital meeting point for industry professionals. The fair continues to support innovation, foster collaborations between emerging talents and established brands, while maintaining a strong focus on sustainable practices and forward-thinking trends. For anyone involved in the fashion and jewelry sectors, Milano Fashion&Jewels is an essential experience that captures the essence of where the industry is headed.
