The 99th edition of MICAM Milano, the international footwear trade fair, held at Rho Fiera Milano, concluded on February 25. As the premier global event for luxury and fashion professionals, it showcased a dynamic intersection of tradition and innovation, with 853 brands from 28 countries presenting their latest collections.
Despite global economic uncertainties, MICAM once again proved to be a crucial hub for the footwear industry, attracting an impressive number of trade visitors and international buyers eager to discover cutting-edge designs, sustainable solutions, and groundbreaking retail technologies. With business at the core, the fair cemented its reputation as an essential platform for forging connections and shaping the future of footwear.
This edition of MICAM paid homage to the master shoemakers who continue to redefine the industry, positioning them as “Game Changers”, artisans and innovators who seamlessly merge heritage with modernity. These visionaries are not only preserving centuries-old craftsmanship but also embracing futuristic materials, digitalization, and new retail strategies to elevate footwear to an art form.
Among the highlights was the MICAM X INNOVATION HUB, where international experts shared insights on retail trends, sustainability, and next-generation materials. The event featured industry leaders such as Michael Ferraro, Executive Director of FIT’s Design and Technology Lab in New York, and retail specialist Jack Stratten, who explored emerging trends in consumer behavior and the evolution of omnichannel shopping experiences.
With sustainability now a non-negotiable pillar of the luxury sector, MICAM 99 placed a strong emphasis on circularity and responsible production. Brands such as RE49, known for its innovative use of recycled materials—from boat sails to vintage deck chairs—illustrated how luxury and eco-consciousness can coexist seamlessly. Meanwhile, digital innovations such as 3D-printed insoles and blockchain-powered Digital Product Passports demonstrated how technology is enhancing transparency and customization in footwear.
The FUTURE OF RETAIL section spotlighted pioneering solutions such as AI-powered trend forecasting, augmented reality (AR) shopping experiences, and precision-fitting technologies. These advancements promise to reshape the customer journey, offering a seamless blend of digital and physical retail experiences tailored to individual needs.
The commitment to fostering new talent was evident in the dedicated EMERGING DESIGNERS area, which featured twelve visionary creatives from around the world. Sustainability and originality were at the heart of their collections, with avant-garde designs crafted from biodegradable materials, innovative textiles, and ethically sourced components.
Additionally, the ACADEMY area offered an immersive space for young artisans to refine their skills, blending traditional techniques with contemporary aesthetics. A highlight of this initiative was an exclusive masterclass led by Stefania Ricci, Director of the Ferragamo Museum, who shared insights into the legacy of one of Italy’s most iconic luxury footwear brands.
As MICAM Milano looks ahead to its milestone 100th edition in September 2025, anticipation is already building for what promises to be a historic celebration of the industry’s finest achievements. With its unwavering dedication to excellence, innovation, and global collaboration, MICAM remains the ultimate reference point for the world of luxury footwear.
For brands, buyers, and industry insiders, MICAM is a movement, shaping the trajectory of fashion’s most fundamental accessory. Mark your calendars for MICAM 100th edition, from 7 to 9 September 2025 at Rho Fiera Milano
