IJS ISTANBUL: SETTING A SUSTAINABLE STANDARD FOR THE GLOBAL JEWELRY TRADE

Istanbul Jewelry Show has firmly established itself not only as a major B2B event on the international jewelry calendar but also as a driving force for sustainability within the industry. Organized by Informa Markets, the show serves as a crucial platform for trade, innovation, and growth within the sector, drawing together key players in the jewelry industry since 1986.

Beyond its significance as a comprehensive marketplace for the international jewelry community, IJS is also making strides in championing sustainable practices. With a strong focus on Eastern Europe to the Near East, Russia to North Africa, CIS Countries to the Middle East, the show provides unique networking and business opportunities.

In a sector that relies heavily on precious raw materials, IJS Istanbul recognizes the importance of ethical and environmentally responsible operations. The show’s “Better Stands Program” encourages exhibitors and contractors to utilize long-lasting and recyclable materials instead of single-use displays. This initiative not only minimizes waste but also promotes a broader shift towards sustainable transformation within the industry.

The dedication to sustainability is further highlighted by the support of the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC). Since becoming an RJC supporting member in 2023, IJS has facilitated a 70% increase in RJC membership among Turkish jewelry companies. By hosting informative seminars and promotional activities, the show actively encourages industry professionals to embrace sustainable production methods.

The commitment extends to various other areas, including the prioritization of local suppliers, promotion of eco-friendly accommodations and public transportation, the use of LED lighting in stands, and a focus on waste recycling. These efforts demonstrate a holistic approach to sustainability, acknowledging the need for change across the entire jewelry supply chain.

“When planning IJS Istanbul Jewelry Show, our goal was not just to create a trade fair but to establish a platform that guides the future of the industry by facilitating the exchange of knowledge and experience,” states Şermin Cengiz, Co-Founder of IJS Istanbul Jewelry Show. “Becoming a supporting member of Responsible Jewellery Council is part of this vision. Hosting nearly 1,500 exhibiting brands and companies and welcoming over 30,000 visitors from more than 150 countries, our exhibition aims to raise awareness of sustainability within the sector. We will continue to lead the transformation of Türkiye’s jewelry industry toward sustainability and inspire industry professionals in this direction.”

Istanbul Jewelry Show, with its rich history and commitment to sustainability, is not only a crucial event for the jewelry trade but also a significant driver of positive change within the sector.
