OROAREZZO 2025: A JOURNEY THROUGH TIME, LIGHT, AND ITALIAN JEWELRY EXCELLENCE

Arezzo, the golden heart of Tuscany, once again pulsed with the brilliance of fine craftsmanship, cultural heritage, and international ambition as it hosted the 44th edition of Oroarezzo from 10 to 13 May, 2025.

The historic city welcomed over 370 exhibitors and approximately 400 international buyers from 60 countries, making it not only a manufacturing capital but also a global stage where jewelry becomes language, mirror, and memory.

This year’s edition of Oroarezzo, organized by Italian Exhibition Group (IEG), unfolded like a symphonic overture, where each movement blended commerce with creativity, tradition with innovation, and local mastery with global perspective. The trade fair was inaugurated with institutional grandeur, featuring the Italian Minister of the Interior, Matteo Piantedosi, alongside representatives from government, industry associations, and local authorities, reinforcing the strategic importance of the jewelry sector within Italy’s export economy.

Indeed, the numbers spoke volumes, with exports reaching €7.7 billion in 2024 — a 119% increase from the previous year — the Arezzo district alone accounted for nearly half of Italy’s total jewelry exports. Buyers from the United Arab Emirates, the United States, Hong Kong, and across Europe gathered in Arezzo to discover what makes “Made in Italy” a hallmark of excellence.

PREMIÈRE: JEWELRY AS A MIRROR OF TIME

At the soul of Oroarezzo lies its most poetic tradition: “Première”, the iconic design competition now in its 34th edition. Curated under the visionary theme “The Mirror of Time” by art director Beppe Angiolini, the showcase invited 58 Italian companies to reflect on jewelry as both object and emotion — a vessel of memory, light, and transformation. Visitors were greeted by mirrored installations, turning the exhibition space itself into a metaphor for self-reflection and the timeless beauty of adornment.

The winning pieces across eight categories were as evocative as they were technically masterful. From Maria De Toni’s bracelet and Moraglione 1922’s ring in the “Mirror of Time” category to the sculptural brilliance of Giordini’s architectural ring and Unoaerre’s “Timeless Jewelry” brooch, each creation stood as a testament to Italian artistry and contemporary relevance. Particularly heartwarming was the recognition of young talent, Marianna Maddaluna, a student from the Giovagnoli Institute in Sansepolcro, who won the “Talents” category and will see her vision realized by one of Arezzo’s esteemed companies.

“The Talents” Category: Marianna Maddaluna

BUSINESS, BEAUTY, AND GLOBAL OUTLOOK

Oroarezzo hosted a rich program of conferences tackling the dynamics of international trade, sustainability, and innovation. Highlights included sessions by the Club degli Orafi, Italian Trade Agency (ITA), and Confartigianato, offering crucial insights into tariff trends, raw material prices, and the ever-shifting tectonics of European and Asian markets.

Worthy to note the interesting data on the European jewelry market, specifically the “Big Five” (UK, France, Italy, Germany, and Spain), noting that they together total over 20 billion euros in gold and jewelry sales. It was also highlighted that jewelry stores are the main distribution channel in these five EU countries, representing 78% of the total in Italy, and that their customers include numerous tourists (24% of the total). E-commerce accounts for 14-20% in each country. Consumer choices are driven by beauty (linked to design), reputation, and easy product access (quality-price ratio).

Matteo Masini, Consumer Goods Area Manager at ITA, emphasized the need for a multi-channel approach, including partnerships with large-scale distribution, e-commerce, and traditional buyers. The meeting also included discussions with Giordana Giordini, president of Federorafi Confindustria South Tuscany, Stefano Andreis, president of Federpreziosi Confcommercio, Egidio Chini and Enrico Peruffo, vice-presidents of Federorafi.

Furthermore, the event shed light on Vietnam as an emerging market for Italian jewelry, with zero duties on gold imports from Italy expected by 2027 due to bilateral agreements with the EU. Vietnam is the top consumer of precious metals in South East Asia, and while it presents a 100 million dollar market, its highly controlled economy and strict regulations pose challenges for Italian companies. ITA’s office in Ho Chi Minh City presented a survey on opportunities in Vietnam, with insights from industry experts like Nguyen Hoang Duy, Anna Vo, and Thy Nguyen. Matteo Masini stressed the importance of Italian companies adapting to local tastes and cultures, obtaining quality certifications, and forming partnerships with local operators in Vietnam.

Federpreziosi’s Retail Observatory provided a data-driven gaze into the evolving desires of domestic consumers, while the second edition of Precious Fashion bridged the fine line between high jewelry and the accessory world, reflecting fashion’s shift from “quiet luxury” to expressive maximalism.

AN OPERATIC INTERLUDE OF ELEGANCE

In a luminous convergence of culture and craft, the Petrarca Theatre hosted Puccini’s comic opera Gianni Schicchi, produced in collaboration with IEG, the Municipality of Arezzo, and Confindustria Federorafi. Adorned with jewels from brands like Unoaerre, Graziella Braccialini, and Gold Art, the stage became a tableau vivant of Italian theatricality and goldsmith excellence — where costumes glittered not merely under the stage lights, but with the soul of Arezzo’s artisanship.

Oroarezzo 2025 was, in every sense, a mirror of Italy’s enduring legacy in the world of jewelry throughout the times. From evocative design to strategic foresight, the event illuminated the power of beauty to transcend borders, and of tradition to evolve without losing its essence. In the city where gold flows like a second language, this edition left its audience not only dazzled but deeply inspired, a true reminder that in the dance of light and metal, it is emotion that casts the longest reflection.
