VENEZIANICO’S NEREIDE CORALLO: CORAL, TIME, AND SEA

There are watches that tell the time, and then there are watches that tell stories. Nereide Corallo, the latest creation from Italian independent watchmaker Venezianico, belongs unapologetically to the latter category. It is a poetic testament to Venice’s enduring romance with the sea, rendered in coral and steel, and shaped by hands that honour the past while carving the future.

In a world where synthetic materials and speed define production, Venezianico has chosen a more nuanced path: one of craftsmanship, cultural reverence, and deep visual narrative. The Nereide Corallo is the brand’s first timepiece to feature a mosaic dial made from genuine red coral—a bold and exquisite choice that elevates this watch into the realm of wearable sculpture.

Red coral has long been a symbol of vitality, protection, and rebirth. It is the stuff of legends, gifted by Neptune himself in Giambattista Tiepolo’s fresco Neptune Offering Gifts to Venice, where coral is presented to La Serenissima as a tribute to its maritime might. Venezianico channels this symbolism through the Nereide Corallo, crafting each dial from carefully selected coral fragments using a mosaic technique entirely done by hand.

No two dials are alike, each one is a unique composition, a fingerprint of the sea, textured, irregular, and alive with the crimson hue of the Mediterranean. The mosaic block is precisely shaped by waterjet cutting to preserve its integrity, then polished by hand to a brilliant finish that mirrors the finesse of high jewellery.

Inside the 42mm 316L stainless steel case beats the Sellita SW200-1, a movement prized for its reliability and accuracy. But Venezianico doesn’t stop at the practical, the movement’s skeletonized rotor, adorned with radial Côtes de Genève and finished with anglage, is gilded with a 3N red gold galvanic treatment, a subtle echo of the coral dial and a nod to the brand’s refined aesthetics.

A sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating guards the coral tableau, while a tungsten bezel—notable for its density and scratch resistance—adds an architectural frame to the composition. The 120-click unidirectional mechanism is robust and reassuring, made for the depths yet styled for the surface.

Completing the look is a Made-in-Italy rubber strap, balancing sportiness with elegance, and ensuring the watch feels just as at home in the water as it does in the world’s most refined settings.

Nereide Corallo is a conversation between sea and city, nature and culture, tradition and innovation. It is a reminder that time is not just a sequence of seconds, but a continuum of stories—some ancient, some still unfolding.

This release is yet another signal that Venezianico, still youthful in the grand narrative of watchmaking, is charting a distinct and courageous course. Under the creative direction of Alberto and Alessandro Morelli, with Alberto now a member of the GPHG Academy, the brand continues to explore new materials and meanings without losing sight of precision and quality.

In the Nereide Corallo, Venezianico has captured a fragment of the sea, set it in motion, and placed it on the wrist of those who understand that true luxury lies not in excess, but in essence.
