CUERVO Y SOBRINOS HONORS A MEXICAN AVIATION HERO

Introducing the Chronograph Emilio Carranza, a timepiece that resurrects the spirit of one of aviation’s unsung heroes, and wraps it in steel, leather, and legend, Cuervo y Sobrinos once again soars with a tribute that blends mechanical precision and poetic history.

Emilio Carranza, often referred to as the “Lindbergh of Mexico,” carved his name into the skies of the 1920s with his daring cross-border flights that captured the imagination of two nations. His goodwill journey from New York to Mexico in 1928 remains etched in aviation history—not only for its ambition, but also for the tragic end that immortalized his legacy. In this newly restyled chronograph, Cuervo y Sobrinos captures both the romance and the reverence of Carranza’s story, delivering a watch that speaks equally to collectors, historians, and connoisseurs of design.

At first glance, the black dial evokes the rugged elegance of a 1920s cockpit, cream-toned Super-LumiNova® indices and hands provide not only excellent legibility, but a vintage charm that enhances its aviation credentials. The engraved aircraft at 9 o’clock is a heartfelt homage to Carranza’s own plane, etched with detail and emotion. The helix-shaped small seconds hand, designed to resemble a spinning propeller, is a masterstroke of subtle storytelling.

Technically, the watch houses the ever-reliable Valjoux 7750 automatic movement, with a 48-hour power reserve and a frequency of 28,800 A/h. The functions are practical and beautifully laid out: chronograph counters at 6 and 12 o’clock, a date window discreetly placed at 6, and that signature small seconds display anchoring the design with historical flair.

The stainless steel case, measuring 44 mm, is matched with a vintage leather strap complete with ecru stitching and a pin buckle engraved with the CyS emblem. Flip the watch over, and you’ll find an engraved case back honoring Emilio Carranza, further rooting the timepiece in its heritage. The double-curved sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating ensures that every detail is seen clearly and beautifully.

Yet, what makes this chronograph truly special isn’t just its form or function, it is the rare ability to connect wearer and story—past and present—through artisanal craftsmanship. It is a tribute cast in metal, a relic of flight, and a bold expression of timeless courage.

The Chronograph Emilio Carranza is an heirloom for modern explorers, a statement for those who still believe in the poetry of machines, and a salute to a man who once dared to fly across borders with nothing but steel wings and sheer will.
