MICAM 101 IS READY TO UNVEIL ITS DATA-DRIVEN VISION FOR THE FUTURE OF FOOTWEAR

MICAM, the the world’s leading international trade fair, is pioneering a transformative approach to trend forecasting and buying for the year 2026 with its 101st edition, taking place at Rho Fiera, from 22 to 24 February. As the global footwear industry prepares to converge in Milan, MICAM is set to unveil a groundbreaking digital tool: the first AI-powered Trend Guide, designed to confidently identify future bestsellers while aligning commercial success with sustainability.

Developed in collaboration with Livetrend, a digital platform specialising in trend and market intelligence, this innovative solution analyses millions of data points from sources ranging from Instagram and e‑commerce platforms to fashion shows and consumer behaviour. Through advanced algorithms, it distills macro-trends that will define the seasons ahead, offering buyers an unprecedented level of insight and reliability.

For the upcoming edition, themed around what MICAM terms the “Primordial Renaissance”,  the data signals a collective shift toward authenticity and meaning. Consumers in 2026 are expected to seek products that embody value, craftsmanship, and narrative depth. In response, MICAM’s Trend Guide outlines four dominant macro-trends that will shape footwear design and selection:

BUCOLIC SLUMBER – A serene return to nature, expressed through soft shapes, comforting materials like suede and grained leathers, and styles such as Mary Janes and riding boots reimagined with substantial soles and rounded lines.

LAVISH SUBVERSION – A celebration of rebellious elegance, where classic silhouettes like ballet flats and loafers are transformed with glossy finishes, velvets, satin, and playful detailing.

PRIMAL FUTURISM – A fusion of past and future, blending minimalist forms with artisanal touches, matte surfaces, pony hair, studded hardware, and distressed finishes.

DARK HISTORY – An atmospheric journey into Gothic romanticism and Baroque drama, featuring sculptural shapes, elongated toes, textured materials like embossed leather and lace, and ceremonial details such as corset lacing and oversized buckles.

Beyond the Trend Guide, MICAM will also present a dedicated Trend Area at the fairgrounds, bringing these concepts to life through curated product displays and immersive installations. This physical expression of data-driven insight allows buyers to experience, touch, and evaluate the trends in person—bridging the gap between digital analysis and physical selection.

For professionals in the luxury footwear sector, MICAM’s initiative represents a strategic tool to reduce unsold inventory, optimise purchasing decisions, and enhance both commercial and environmental outcomes. In an era where consumers are increasingly value-driven, the ability to anticipate demand with precision is not just advantageous, rather essential.

Edition 101 of MICAM, therefore, is a forward-looking platform where data meets design, where intuition is enriched by intelligence, and where the future of footwear is selected with confidence. As the industry looks to Milan this February, it does so with the assurance that the next generation of bestsellers is already within sight, guided not by magic, but by meaning, foresight, and innovation.
