The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) held the 36th edition of India International Jewellery Show, IIJS Premiere 2019, from 9th to 12th August 2019 at the Bombay Exhibition Centre, Goregaon, Mumbai.
Shri Ashish Shelar, Maharashtra State Minister of School Education, Sports & Youth Welfare, inaugurated IIJS Premiere 2019 in the presence of Mr. Pramod Kumar Agrawal, Chairman, GJEPC and Guests of Honour Mr. Paul Rowley, Executive Vice President, Diamond Trading & Distribution, De Beers Group and Mr. Evgeny Agureev, Director, United Selling Organisation, Alrosa.
In his word, Mr. Agrawal said that Gem and Jewellery trade of India needs to adapt itself with the changing world scenario. With the US putting a 10% duty on Chinese exports of gem & jewellery, India has a potential opportunity to grab market share of a USD 6 bn opportunity.
Shri Ashish Shelar from his side made it clear that Maharashtra has extended its support to the gem & jewellery business and is cooperating with the GJEPC in creating the country’s first ever Jewellery Park coming up in Navi Mumbai.
Mr. Paul Rowley stressed on the fact that India is the pulse and the heartbeat of the global gem & jewellery trade. He believes that IIJS Premiere 2019 will jumsptart the shift to a new order in this trade.
In fact, IIJS Premiere 2019 hosted the whole industry under its roof. With 1,300+ exhibitors, IIJS Premiere 2019 booths featured clearly defined sections: Couture, Mass Produced, Plain Gold, silver jewellery, Loose Stones, International Pavilions, Synthetics & Simulants, Laboratories & Education, Allied, Hall of Innovation and Special Clusters (MSME sector).
In the frame of the show, GJEPC organized ‘Jewellers for Hope’ – a Charity Dinner event which proceeds went to 3 social institutions; a highly respected initiative by the jewelers aimed at giving back to their community.
The Seminars series accompanying the event revolved around the theme of ‘Growth Strategy for Jewellery – retail growth, upgrading skills, raising education standards and knowledge levels; issues related to taxation and GST; natural mined and lab grown diamonds amongst others.
Coinciding with IIJS, IIJS Machinery Show took place at Hotel Lalit and Hotel Leela Sahar Airport, Mumbai with a total of 155 exhibiting Jewellery Manufacturing Machines, Diamond manufacturing machines, Gemstones Machinery, Casting & Electric Casting Equipment, Precious Alloy, Refinery Ingredients, Tools & Equipment, Box and packaging, IT and software solutions, alloys, etc.
The next appointment in Mumbai is from 15 to 17 October at the India Diamond Week; an annual event which attracts important diamond dealers from around the world.
