The 27th edition of the Gran Premio Nuvolari, the famous regularity race for classic cars, ended with victory for the Vesco – Guerini crew, driving a Fiat 508 S Balilla Sport from 1934, which took the chequered flag in Piazza Sordello, and also saw a fresh triumph for the Classicteam Eberhard scuderia. This was a particularly memorable edition for Eberhard & Co., the Gran Premio’s timekeeper and official partner, in which the Team’s partnership of Lucia Fanti and Sandra Murru also won the Women’s Cup in a Porsche 356 A T2 Cabrio. Finally the duo of Gianmario Fontanella and Anna Maria Covelli, also from Classicteam Eberhard, came in fourth place overall in a Ford B Roadster from 1933. Eberhard & Co. provided the overall winners with two beautiful watches from the Tazio Nuvolari collection, dedicated to the greatest champion of all time, while the first placed Italian scuderia and the first placed foreign scuderia were awarded  two Chrono 4 Wall Clocks, the watchmaker’s first ever wall clock. The organisers and partners were thrilled by the large number of participants from Italy and abroad and by the clamorous support of spectators who watched the stages over the three day event. The latest model from the Swiss watchmaker also caused quite a stir: the “Tazio Nuvolari Vanderbilt Cup Naked” model, presented for the first time in Italy at the Gran Premio. The first 20 timepieces were sold in Mantua during the GP.

Eberhard & Co.’s official car, an elegant Alfa Romeo 1900 C Super Sprint from 1956, made its debut at the event with an exceptional crew and was admired by spectators over the length of the competition route.

THE PARTNERSHIP WITH EBERHARD & CO.

The prestigious Swiss watchmaker Eberhard & Co. (www.eberhard-co-watches.ch) brought its unmistakeable style and elegance as official timekeeper, marking every precious moment experienced by competitors in this spectacular event. http://www.eberhard-co-watches.ch/. There is a strong and lasting bond between the brand, which specialises in the production of highly technical timepieces, and the fascinating world of speed and classic motor racing. The connection dates back to 1991 when the watchmaker dedicated a special collection of chronographs to the great driver, Tazio Nuvolari, and became the timekeeper and official partner of the Gran Premio Nuvolari. “As part of our sponsorship activities we participate in many of the most important vintage car events,” said Mario Peserico, Managing Director of Eberhard Italia. “We select the races that best reflect our brand’s style, elegance, sophistication and attention to detail. For us, Nuvolari is still the event we feel closest to, given the importance of the competition – this year the great Italian and foreign drivers will be separated by just 100ths of seconds. But above all because of the beauty and charm of a competition in which every curve and straight harks back to the myth of one of the greatest drivers of all time.”

CLASSICTEAM EBERHARD

Since 2010 the company has shared this passion with an exceptional partner, the Mantuan scuderia Classicteam, which it has supported in all of the most important competitions. The team took part in the 2013 edition of what it considers the “home competition”, with no fewer than 13 cars, including eight prewar models. This year the group included an exceptional navigator: Mario Peserico – Managing Director of Eberhard Italia, who raced alongside Corrado Corneliani, the head of the scuderia, in a wonderful 1952 Jaguar, demonstrating a solid bond that goes well beyond mere sponsorship. There was also a female partnership consisting of the duo of Fanti and Murru, who competed in the Women’s Cup.

THE NEW TAZIO NUVOLARI VANDERBILT CUP – NAKED

At this unmissable event Eberhard & Co. also made the official presentation in Italy of the new model from the collection dedicated to the great driver, “TAZIO NUVOLARI VANDERBILT CUP – NAKED”. The iconic Vanderbilt Cup collection, which Eberhard & Co. dedicates to one of the legendary driver’s most prestigious victories, now includes a new exclusive version which adds a touch of elegance and a more distinct personality to one of the watchmaker’s best loved sporting timepieces, thanks to its completely black face. A mechanical, self-winding waterproof chronograph featuring sapphire crystal, this is the first watch in the Tazio Nuvolari – Vanderbilt Cup range to feature a black face with white Arabic numerals. It offers important technical details inspired by the past but with a contemporary feel. Like the other timepieces from the collection, the chronograph reset button is coaxial with the crown, reminiscent of the Eberhard & Co. chronographs of the 1930s. The case is lighter than in previous versions because there is no back plate, hence the use of the term NAKED. This term will be familiar to motor enthusiasts as it is used to describe cars whose body panels have been removed in order to show off the engine. Similarly, the movement in the naked version of the Vanderbilt Cup can be seen through the sapphire crystal back. Nuvolari’s signature is also screen printed on the back.
