Time is often read and rarely is it witnessed, yet, with the unveiling of their latest Architect editions, MAURON MUSY and Arturo Tedeschi invite us to do just that. Following a debut that sent ripples through the world of independent Swiss horology, the partnership has returned to the precipice of design and engineering. But where they once built a bridge between computational code and physical form, they have now set that bridge ablaze.
The new MU05-109 Architect of Golden Cosmos and MU05-110 Architect of Golden Oasis do not only house a movement, they also suspend it between two extremes; the ancient, crystalline chaos of a meteorite that fell to Earth four billion years before the first sunrise, and the deep, meditative calm of a desert oasis. Held together by an exoskeleton of pure 18K gold, sculpted not by hand, but by algorithm, these are artifacts of a future where architecture breathes, and where gold no longer decorates the structure, but becomes it.
The MU05-109 “Golden Cosmos” and MU05-110 “Golden Oasis” are studies in contrast, anchored by a shared architectural language. The case remains the robust 44mm Grade 5 titanium signature of the collection, “100% Swiss Crafted”, ensuring everything is manufactured, assembled, and finished within a tight radius of the manufacture. But the eye is immediately drawn to the dial, where a solid 18K gold framework, sculpted by Tedeschi’s signature parametric algorithms, rises in relief.
This is not decorative appliqué, it is a mathematical evolution made tangible, a golden skeleton that organizes the void to frame the beating heart of the watch: the calibre MM01-SK. This mechanical movement, with its 167 components and 55-hour power reserve, is laid bare without artifice. True to the brand’s philosophy, there is no superfluous decoration here; the bridges and plates are exposed to assert the mechanical truth of the Swiss lever escapement.
It is the treatment of the “terrain” beneath this golden architecture that defines the two editions, transforming them from timepieces into artifacts. The Architect of Golden Cosmos (Ref. MU05-109) is grounded in the sublime. Beneath its 18K gold framework lies a dial cut from the Muonionalusta meteorite. As explained in a recent analysis of meteorite timepieces by The 1916 Company, this iron-nickel meteorite is one of the oldest known on Earth, with its origins tracing back to the formation of the Solar System over 4.5 billion years ago. The resulting Widmanstätten patterns, those ethereal, geometric crystals that cannot be reproduced by human hand, are unique to each piece. In the “Golden Cosmos”, Tedeschi’s algorithmic gold grid does not obscure these celestial patterns but rather frames them, creating a tension between the structured, mathematical certainty of the code and the chaotic, ancient beauty of the stars.
Conversely, the Architect of Golden Oasis (Ref. MU05-110) descends to Earth. It replaces the meteorite with a deep, sunray-finished dial in a rich blue, evocative of water and the horizon. Here, the 18K gold architecture becomes an organic topography, capturing light to create the illusion of abyssal depth and reflections on a tranquil surface. It is a calculated path toward an organic landscape, proving that algorithmic design can evoke the fluidity of the natural world as powerfully as the cosmos.
Beyond the visual poetry, these editions are anchored by the patented mechanical ingenuity of Mauron Musy. Both watches feature the revolutionary nO-Ring® technology. In conventional watchmaking, water resistance is achieved through perishable rubber gaskets that require replacement. Mauron Musy has engineered this dependency out of existence. Through extreme precision in the machining of the case components, they achieve mechanical water resistance, up to 300 meters, without a single O-ring.
As the brand notes, this innovation is not merely a technical party trick; it significantly extends service intervals and reduces the use of synthetic materials, contributing to a more sustainable lifecycle for the timepiece.
In keeping with the exclusivity of the collection, the production runs are deliberately sparse. The Golden Oasis is limited to just 10 pieces, while the Golden Cosmos will see a slightly larger but still minuscule run of 27 pieces, priced at CHF 32,000 each. Each watch bears the discreetly engraved signatures “μμ” and “AT” on the caseback, a permanent imprint of a dialogue between two masters of structure.
With the Architect of Golden Cosmos and Golden Oasis, Mauron Musy and Arturo Tedeschi have transcended the boundaries of the collaboration. They have moved from designing a watch to curating an experience of matter itself. Whether housing the soul of a 4.5-billion-year-old asteroid or the reflective tranquility of an oasis, these pieces stand as monuments to the idea that in the right hands, structure is not just a frame, it is the soul.
