53RD BANGKOK GEMS & JEWELRY FAIR, RESPONSE EXCEEDS EXPECTATIONS

Despite being held during political protests in Bangkok, the 53rd Bangkok Gems & Jewelry Fair ended up a success story as stated by the exhibitors themselves.

In fact the precious and semi-precious gemstone sector reported excellent results, and the diamond sector did brisk business. While the jewelry sector saw only average results, some jewellers did report very strong sales.

Two major factors contributed in fact to this success: the Duty Free status of the Fair, the attendance of serious buyers flooding the show.

With “Freedom of Trade” as the main theme, the show was inaugurated in the presence of Ms Srirat Rastapana, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce, and Ms Nuntawan Sakuntanaga, Director-General of the Department of International Trade Promotion, and top executives of ministries and other government agencies.

“With the ongoing Duty Free status of the Bangkok Gems & Jewelry Fair, more and more international buyers are now coming to the Fair for the keenest prices. This trend will continue to increase, underlining the ranking of the Bangkok Gems & Jewelry Fair as a truly international event.” said Mr. Somchai Phornchindarak, president of the Thai Gem and Jewelry Traders Association, and of The Gems Jewelry and Precious Metal Confederation of Thailand.

The Design Pavilion highlighted as usual “Ploi Thai,” Thailand’s country brand for gems and jewelry produced in Thailand, representing creations by Thai artisans whose skills epitomize the Kingdom’s status of “the world’s gems and jewelry hub.”
