JGW Singapore attracting big-name exhibitors

The industry’s most-awaited sourcing event of the year features 20+ pavilions powered by 1,000 major suppliers from 30+ countries and regions

Some of the world’s biggest jewellery and gemstone companies are taking part in Jewellery & Gem WORLD (JGW), previously known as the September Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair, from 27 to 30 September at Hall 3 to 6 of the Singapore EXPO. The fair will present the newest products of around 1,000 exhibitors from 30+ countries and regions.

The iconic B2B jewellery show is temporarily relocating from its Hong Kong home base to the Lion City, a destination currently more accessible to overseas buyers and exhibitors. Unlike Hong Kong, which still subjects travellers to a seven-day mandatory quarantine in a designated hotel among others, Singapore welcomes fully vaccinated visitors with a seamless quarantine-free and test-free travel experience.

JGW Singapore has drawn an overwhelmingly positive response from buyers and exhibitors, signifying the growing clamour for the return of face-to-face sourcing events. Buyer registration is now open at this link.

Ahmad Al-Muhaisen of Al-Muhaisen Jewellery of Saudi Arabia said he and his team “long to visit an all-in-one show” once again. “It is time for the industry to start thinking big in order to help the sector recover from a tough three years. JGW will definitely be an attraction for me, as for other jewellery professionals from around the world,” Al-Muhaisen said.

Cesar Ouzounian of Ouzounian Jewellery of Lebanon and the UAE noted that the choice of Singapore as an alternative venue for JGW could have an energising effect on the industry.

“Singapore is a beautiful country, and hosting an exhibition for jewellery in such a place will be very inspiring I believe,” Ouzounian said. “This year’s JGW experience should be unprecedented and will revive in our minds the comprehensive show we used to visit in Hong Kong.”

International Exhibitors

Some of the industry-leading companies that will be at JGW Singapore include luxury jewellers Crivelli, FEI, House of Gems and KGK Jewellery; contemporary fine jewellers ADJ (Thai) Co Ltd, H V Jewels Co Ltd and Jewelcraft; fine and antique jewellery dealer Gemolithos Group GmbH; coloured gemstone suppliers Blue Gems Co Ltd, Miranda Group Co Ltd, Paul Wild OHG and RMC Gems, and diamond manufacturers H. K. Impex Pvt Ltd, J.B. And Brothers, S. Goldi, Sheetal and Tache to name a few.

Nothing drives networking and partnerships better than in-person events, shared Nattawut Tovikkai, Managing Director of Thailand-based Blue Gems Co Ltd, a major supplier of rubies and sapphires.

“JGW Singapore is ideally timed for us to get in touch with our existing customers given the improving COVID situation in many parts of the world. After more than two years of being apart, we are now presented with the best opportunity to showcase our new products to potential clients in a physical format,” said Tovikkai, noting that the in-person buying experience is imperative when it comes to coloured gemstone sourcing.

“The online business model has its limitations,” he continued. Many of Blue Gems’ clients are looking forward to attending JGW Singapore since they want to see the stones beyond the screen, feel the weight of the gems in their hands and observe how different light sources affect their colours.

For Cam Li Miranda, Managing Director of Miranda Group Co Ltd, JGW Singapore is the ideal platform for the launch of her company’s exceptional coloured gemstone collections. The gemstone specialist has cutting and polishing facilities in Hong Kong and Shenzhen.

“We are glad to participate in JGW Singapore,” Miranda said. “We are a gemstone manufacturer that sources precious materials direct from our group’s own mines and associate mines. In the last 20 years, we have been working on our mine projects, especially the Paraiba tourmaline mines in Brazil, Mozambique and Nigeria. We have been developing this project constantly, and now post-COVID, we are ready to promote our finest gemstones to the international market.”

The Premier Pavilion exhibitor aims to connect with jewellery brands, high-end and branded luxury jewellery retailers, designers and collectors at the Singapore fair.

The fair is shaping up to be an industry-defining event. Itscurated environment will feature leading suppliersfrom Asia, Europe, North America, South America, Australia, Africa and the Middle East. In terms of product categories, buyers will be wowed by JGW’s sheer offerings, which include diamonds, coloured gemstones, pearls, fei cui (jadeite jade), fine jewellery, antique and vintage collections, pre-owned jewellery, silver creations, lab-grown diamonds and technology solutions – all in one venue.

The exhibition is likewise anticipated to host pavilions featuring vendors from Africa, Colombia, Germany, India, Korea and Turkey, and member-companies of the Antwerp World Diamond Centre (AWDC) and the International Colored Gemstone Association (ICA).

Additionally, the Premier Pavilion, a section exclusive to the Singapore event, will present jewellery masterpieces, design-focused fine collections and investment-quality gemstones.

“All signs point to an exciting and lively buying experience in Singapore this September,” said David Bondi, Senior Vice President of Informa Markets in Asia. “The last two years were the toughest that we had ever faced – both professionally and personally – and challenges do remain. We, however, believe that our journey to recovery is gaining momentum, and we are humbled and thankful to play a part in our industry’s rebuilding.”

The Singapore show will look different and feel different. It will, however, bring the same sense of community and purpose that defines JGW, Bondi continued.

“Everyone who is passionate about our industry will be there – manufacturers, designers, brands, retailers, wholesalers and innovators who will celebrate everything that is wonderful and enduring about jewellery – for four intense days of trading and networking,” he said.

With growth hopes further tempered by external headwinds, the significance of inspiring sourcing experiences like JGW Singapore cannot be overemphasised, said Celine Lau, Director of Jewellery Fairs at Informa Markets Jewellery.

“The road ahead can be rife with disruptions,” Lau said. “To help open up new growth opportunities for suppliers and professional buyers, we are making our sourcing events work even harder for our community with initiatives such as JGW Singapore and other B2B events tailored to their needs.”
