CENTRESTAGE is Redefining Asia’s Fashion Capital

For the global luxury sector, Asia is no longer merely a growth market, it is rather the epicentre of consumption, taste-making and cultural dialogue. Yet the challenge for international brands has always been navigating the region’s complexity: how to balance global consistency with local nuance, how to access emerging talent while maintaining commercial viability, and how to engage a new generation of ultra-high-net-worth consumers who value authenticity as much as exclusivity.

This September, Hong Kong offers a compelling answer, CENTRESTAGE, the annual fashion showcase organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), returns from 2 to 5 September 2026 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, building on a decade of growth to reaffirm its place as an indispensable fixture in the luxury B2B calendar.

The 2026 edition arrives at a high point for the event, CENTRESTAGE is once again woven into the Hong Kong Fashion Fest, the city-wide, multi-venue celebration of style, design and craftsmanship now in its third year, and CENTRESTAGE remains one of its core events. That continuity matters and reflects a deliberate, multi-year strategy by HKTDC to position Hong Kong as host to an event and as curator of a movement, one that draws regional buyers alongside global decision-makers, cultural influencers and institutional investors.

Last year’s edition marked CENTRESTAGE’s 10th anniversary, it drew its largest turnout on record, with over 260 brands from 25 countries and regions, and more than 10,700 buyers from 91 countries and regions, with particularly strong growth in buyer participation from the UK, Mainland China, India and Indonesia. It is against that benchmark that the 2026 edition sets out to build.

Held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, with extended evening hours, the show’s schedule is designed for maximum engagement and convenience, accommodating the demanding itineraries of international buyers and exhibitors, and reinforcing the event’s commitment to seamless, high-value networking.

Setting the tone for the week is CENTRESTAGE ELITES, the fair’s opening gala show, held on the evening of 2 September at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. This year’s edition shines its spotlight on KIT WAN STUDIOS, a multidisciplinary design and visual art studio led by Hong Kong-born creative director and visual artist Kit Wan, marking the studio’s inaugural solo fashion show in Hong Kong.

The studio is known for its ‘Abstract Reality’ approach, merging sci-fi, manga and mechanical aesthetics with bespoke, highly detailed metalwork, multimedia installations and cinematic garment design, a body of work that spans everything from one-of-a-kind costume design to permanent museum exhibits. Wan’s own trajectory reads like a case study in East-meets-West formation, trained in knitwear design at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, followed by a spell in London and a move to Amsterdam, before settling in Oslo to complete an MA in Fashion Design. He later became the first fashion designer honoured with Norway’s Young Artist Award, and his work now sits in the permanent collection of the National Museum of Norway.

As a costume designer and scenographer for the global entertainment industry, Wan has designed stage looks for performers at the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles and Eurovision in the United Kingdom, while remaining deeply rooted in Hong Kong’s Cantopop scene, his collaborators span local stars including Aaron Kwok, Hins Cheung, Miriam Yeung and Nicholas Tse, alongside international names such as Alan Cumming and Teddy Swims. Last year, Fashion Asia Hong Kong named the studio its sole Hong Kong representative among its ‘10 Asian Designers to Watch’ for 2025. Headlining CENTRESTAGE ELITES is a reminder that in Hong Kong, stage costume, performance and fashion increasingly share the same runway.

What distinguishes CENTRESTAGE from the proliferating fashion weeks across Asia is its dual focus on commercial accessibility and creative distinction. The event serves as a bridge, a platform where Western luxury houses can engage with Asian design sensibilities, and where Asian designers can gain exposure to global markets without compromising their cultural identity.

The 2026 roster of exhibitors reflects this balanced curation. A standout participant is Sparkle by Karen Chan, a Hong Kong-based label that offers a contemporary interpretation of Chinese aesthetics, a fitting example of the “modern heritage” narrative increasingly favoured by discerning luxury consumers. Buyers have consistently noted this as a key attraction; as one Italian brand director observed during her first visit, “What stood out to me most was the calibre of local talent.”

That local talent pipeline is no accident. Each edition’s closing evening culminates in the grand finale of the Hong Kong Young Fashion Designers’ Contest (YDC), where a new cohort of emerging local designers present original collections to an audience of international buyers and press, a structured pathway from graduate to global stage that few regional fairs can match.

Beyond individual designers, the event’s international pavilions — including a strong presence from the UK, Czechia and other European fashion nations — ensure a rich diversity of perspectives. This is not a monolithic “Asian fashion show”; it is a genuine cross-cultural exchange, curated for an audience that values depth over breadth.

CENTRESTAGE has also invested significantly in digital infrastructure to facilitate meaningful connections, the event’s dedicated mobile application has earned consistent praise for its intuitive design and practical utility. It enables buyers to schedule meetings, discover new designers and navigate the exhibition floor with precision, transforming what can be an overwhelming experience into a curated journey.

For B2B luxury professionals, this efficiency is not a convenience but a necessity. The app’s functionality reduces friction, allowing decision-makers to allocate more time to discovery and negotiation. As one UK-based founder noted, “The event is remarkably rich in its offering — there’s a great deal to discover.”

A notable feature of CENTRESTAGE’s institutional backing is the funding support provided by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, through the Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency (CCIDA). This governmental endorsement provides exhibitors and buyers with a layer of confidence and legitimacy that is often absent from purely commercial fashion events.

However, it is important to note that the project operates under a clear disclaimer: the government provides funding support only and does not participate in the project’s execution. Any opinions, findings or recommendations expressed are solely those of the project organisers. This structure ensures creative independence while maintaining institutional credibility, a delicate balance that appeals to both established luxury houses and emerging designers.

Recognising the logistical demands of international travel, HKTDC offers exclusive travel assistance for incoming buyers and exhibitors, including negotiated rates on hotels and airfares. This pragmatic approach underscores the event’s commitment to attracting high-quality participants from around the world, particularly from regions such as Europe, North America and the Middle East, markets where business aviation and luxury travel are already significant sectors.

As the luxury industry grapples with questions of sustainability, digital transformation and shifting consumer values, events like CENTRESTAGE are evolving into more than mere marketplaces. They are becoming platforms for dialogue, collaboration and cultural exchange. Hong Kong, with its unique position as a gateway between East and West, is ideally suited to host this conversation.

For the B2B luxury decision-maker, the message is clear: CENTRESTAGE is no longer just an event to observe from a distance. It is a strategic opportunity to engage with the region’s most dynamic talent, access its most affluent consumers, and participate in the ongoing redefinition of global luxury.
