Discover the Healing Powers of Hungary’s Thermal Spas

Hungary, also known as the “Land of waters,” is set to showcase its thermal and mineral water sources, thermal lakes, and baths at the 30th edition of the Arabian Travel Market in Dubai from May 1-4, 2023. With 80% of the country’s territory boasting thermal water reserves, Hungary has become a go-to destination for travelers seeking wellness and medical retreats focused on regenerative health, beauty, and vigor.

Renewal has been the main theme in Hungary for the past few years, resulting in a new side of the capital and rural Hungary, showcasing world-class sporting events, outstanding cultural projects, and renewed historical sites. As part of a comprehensive development program, Hungary has undergone over 17,000 developments in the tourism sector since 2017, including 63 new hotels, 14,000 private accommodation units, nearly 600 guesthouses, and 114 renovated beaches. 23 new hotels opened in Hungary in 2022, including five 5-star and sixteen 4-star accommodations, with eight in Budapest alone.

Budapest is also celebrating its 150-year anniversary of the unification of Buda, Pest, and Old Buda in 2023, with many events taking place in the city’s iconic historic sites. The World Athletics Championships, the third largest sporting event in the world, will be held in Budapest in a new sports complex, and for the first time, Budapest will host the 2023 UEFA Europa League final match.

The Liget Budapest Project is the largest cultural urban development program on the continent, comprehensively developing Budapest 100-hectare City Park. This includes the renewal and expansion of the park’s greenery and recreational functions, as well as the institutional framework with numerous iconic buildings, such as the House of Music.

The historic Opera House, which underwent an extensive 5-year refurbishment and modernization, was reopened in March 2022. Buda Castle is also experiencing an era of development and rebirth with the Hauszmann Program, featuring St Stephen’s Hall, one of the most important locations in the turn-of-the-century Palace of Buda Castle, now open to visitors.

Veszprém and the Bakony region near Balaton have been named European Capitals of Culture in 2023, dedicated to creativity, art, music, and gastronomy-related events.

According to the Hungarian National Tourism Data Supply Centre, about 21,000 guests from the GCC spent about 66,000 guest nights in Hungary in 2022, with the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia ranking as two key GCC source countries for Hungary. Visitors from Qatar spend the most on accommodation, followed by Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
