KIMBERLEY PROCESS INTERSESSIONAL 2026 CONCLUDES IN MUMBAI

The Kimberley Process Intersessional 2026 drew to a close on 15 May in Mumbai, highlighting the commitment to a natural diamond trade built on credibility, compliance, and consumer confidence.

Over four days, governments, industry leaders, and civil society convened under India’s Chairship to advance the 3Cs framework, the central theme of the country’s leadership year. Discussions spanned monitoring mechanisms, artisanal production, governance reforms, and supply chain transparency, all aimed at ensuring the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme remains relevant in a market increasingly shaped by digital verification and sustainability.

Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Shri Piyush Goyal reaffirmed India’s role as the world’s leading diamond cutting and polishing hub, stating that natural diamonds must remain “a symbol of trust, responsibility and shared prosperity”. KP Chair 2026 Mr. Suchindra Misra added that trust remains the foundation of the trade, emphasising the need for a Process that is responsive to both industry and consumer expectations.

The momentum from Mumbai will carry forward to the KP Plenary in New Delhi later this year. As Mr. Kirit Bhansali, Chairman of GJEPC, noted in his concluding statement: “Let us carry forward the momentum from Mumbai to build a more transparent, inclusive, and future-ready Kimberley Process”. A quiet but decisive step forward for an industry that thrives on confidence.
