CYRUS GENEVE’S KLEPCYS VERTICAL TOURBILLON SAPPHIRE BLUE

… A TRANSPARENT TRIUMPH IN TECHNICAL ARTISTRY

Cyrus Genève has once again raised the bar in haute horlogerie with its latest masterpiece: the Klepcys Vertical Tourbillon Sapphire Blue. Limited to just eight pieces worldwide, this new vertical tourbillon is a spectacular fusion of mechanical complexity, avant-garde aesthetics, and precious materials, a watch clearly designed for collectors with a taste for the exceptional.

At the heart of this timepiece lies the iconic vertical tourbillon, an innovation by master watchmaker Jean-François Mojon, who has been the creative force behind the brand’s mechanical achievements since 2010. Breaking away from the conventional horizontal alignment, the tourbillon is placed at a striking 90° angle on the vertical axis, which is a technical feat designed to improve timekeeping precision on the wrist, regardless of its orientation. This vertical configuration not only delivers functional benefit but forms the dramatic centerpiece of the dial’s three-dimensional architecture.

Encased entirely in sapphire crystal, the Klepcys Vertical Tourbillon Sapphire Blue delivers both spectacle and substance. The 44 mm cushion-shaped case (excluding the brand’s distinctive twin crowns) required over 150 hours of machining, milling, and polishing, testament to the difficulty of shaping one of the hardest materials used in watchmaking — second only to diamond in hardness. Comprising 29 separate components, the case is not only a protective structure but a transparent stage that magnifies the beauty of the in-house calibre CYR625 from every angle.

The combination of white gold crowns and a white rubber strap with prism embossing maintains a refined yet sporty character, offering a crisp contrast to the crystalline case and brilliant blue dial accents.

Cyrus Genève has refreshed the dial’s aesthetic with vibrant electric blue PVD-coated hands and indices, offering immediate visual punch while enhancing legibility. The openworked dial provides an uninterrupted view of the dual barrels and the movement’s intricate gearwork, while the arched white gold bridge, inspired by Leonardo da Vinci’s self-supporting bridge, elegantly frames the tourbillon cage.

Symmetry defines the display: a white-lacquered sphere at 12 o’clock shows the power reserve (up to four days), counterbalanced by the Cyrus logo on a blue plaque. The retrograde jumping hour and sweeping minute functions remain, preserving the Klepcys’ hallmark identity while the vibrant color palette injects new energy into the collection.

Beneath the sapphire shell lies the hand-wound CYR625 calibre, composed of 344 components and finished to the highest standards of traditional watchmaking. Chamfered bridges are adorned with a curved, sunray-brushed and polished pattern; bespoke screws are mirror-polished; and blue lacquered ratchet wheels are emblazoned with the brand’s signature propeller logo.

The 52-part vertical tourbillon cage, weighing just 0.706 grams, completes a full rotation every 60 seconds, with seconds displayed on rotating square plates — red-tipped at 60 for added clarity. The movement oscillates at 3 Hz (21,600 vph) and is equipped with twin barrels, offering a power reserve of over 100 hours.

The Klepcys Vertical Tourbillon Sapphire Blue is a collector’s objet d’art, a technical conversation starter, and a symbol of independent watchmaking daring spirit. With only eight pieces available, this latest evolution of the Klepcys Vertical Tourbillon is destined for the wrists of those who not only understand the intricacies of fine watchmaking but crave a creation that defies convention.
