VAN CLEEF & ARPELS’ BETWEEN THE FINGER RINGS COMBINING ELEGANCE AND INNOVATION

Emblematic examples of the Maison’s savoir-faire, Between the Finger RingsTM add unique enchantment to the art of adorning the hand. New creations depict a series of tender pairings, featuring precious flowers and butterflies.

A signature of Van Cleef & Arpels

From the outset, Van Cleef & Arpels was distinguished by its technical and aesthetic inventiveness, which gave rise to several of its most emblematic creations. From the MinaudièreTM precious case – the astute evening bag designed in the 1930s – to the famous

Zip necklace, from the Passe-Partout – a convertible jewel created in 1939 – to the Poetic Theaters with their hidden mechanisms, the Maison’s history has been marked by masterpieces of ingenuity.

In this way, the Maison has turned its creativity to renewing the art of wearing jewelry. Feminine and daring, the Between the Finger Rings have opened up new perspectives in jewelry-making. They are not simply rings, but genuine ornaments for the hand. While some pieces adorn several fingers, others are composed of two motifs joined by an open loop, engaged in an intimate dialogue. In 1972, the Maison created the Fleur de corail ring, made up of two corollas. Over the following years, they were adorned with other materials such as onyx.

At the turn of the 21st century, Van Cleef & Arpels is once again giving pride of place to this savoir-faire, which constitutes such a perfect expression of its style. From unique pieces of High Jewelry to the jewelry collections, Between the Finger Rings lend their forms to some of the Maison’s cherished themes.

Butterflies and flowers, birds and Alhambra® symbols: the motifs face one another, bloom, unfurl. Thanks to this feat of jewelry-making, the enchanting universe of Van Cleef & Arpels spreads across the hand to narrate new tales of poetry.

Flowers and butterflies

Today, Van Cleef & Arpels celebrates its Between the Finger Ring with new creations inspired by Nature. Already adorned with diamonds and yellow sapphires, the Two Butterfly collection is embellished with a model of exquisite femininity: the Two Butterfly Between the Finger Ring set with pink sapphires. Decorated with single marquise-cut diamonds at their centers, the winged beauties create an ethereal dialogue from one side of the finger to the other. The asymmetrical aesthetic so dear to the Maison is reinforced by the association of diamonds and pink sapphires, combining tenderness and sparkle.

Cosmos® is another emblematic Van Cleef & Arpels collection to welcome a new Between the Finger Ring, available from spring 2013. Inspired by the Cosmos flowers’ delicate corollas, its different-sized motifs blossom on either side of the finger to form a sparkling duet. More than 90 diamonds, selected according to the very highest standards (color DEF, clarity IF, VVS1-VVS2), contribute an immaculate radiance to the heart and petals. From the angle of the motifs to the overall proportions, each detail has been carefully designed to lend lightness and grace to this precious bouquet.

The Cosmos collection

• A timeless Van Cleef & Arpels collection, Cosmos pays homage to the flower of the same name, with its petals evoking luck.

• In gardens, its white or colored corollas attract butterflies and birds, which gather nectar on summer days.

• Van Cleef & Arpels’ Cosmos collection is made up of earrings, rings and pendants which can be converted into clips, in white gold and diamonds.

Inventiveness and savoir-faire

Between the Finger Rings encapsulate all the expertise of Van Cleef & Arpels, the High Jewelry Maison. The quintessence of savoir-faire, these creations combine technical excellence and aesthetic refinement in the name of groundbreaking creativity.

The focus is on harmony and comfort, from tender dialogues between two motifs (Two Butterfly, Lucky Alhambra) to the convertible models (Lotus, Virevolte). Slipped delicately between the fingers, the ring sits naturally on the hand. The metal loop remains out of sight, to emphasize the undulating contours of the jeweled motifs. With varying thicknesses deployed at multiple levels, the lively outlines of their curves exert a hypnotic effect.

To achieve this delicate balance, each detail is carefully studied and each stone rigorously selected (color DEF, clarity IF, VVS1-VVS2). While the surface delights with its forms and poetry, the reverse captures the light with its openwork design. The enchantment is prolonged by an invisible mechanism, in keeping with the Maison’s convertible creations. In order for the design to work its magic, nothing is left to chance.
