THE BULGARI PINK MAKES ITS AUCTION DEBUT AFTER 70 YEARS

There are diamonds, and then there are legends. This November, Christie’s Geneva will play host to a stone that firmly belongs to the latter category, The Bulgari Pink.

Headlining the Autumn Luxury Week, this remarkable 24.00-carat Fancy Intense Pink emerald-cut diamond is a piece of history emerging from the shadows after seven decades of private ownership. Estimated at CHF 10–15 million (US$12–18 million), it will go under the hammer on 10 November at the Four Seasons Hotel des Bergues.

The story of The Bulgari Pink begins in the 1950s, a decade defined by post-war glamour and the golden age of cinema. According to family lore, the rough diamond was acquired in India by the great-grandfather of the current owner, a distinguished European noble. It was then entrusted to Bulgari in Rome, a jeweller rapidly emerging as the destination for the world’s most discerning collectors.

At the time, the Via Condotti boutique was the beating heart of “Hollywood on the Tiber,” a cultural meeting point for icons like Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, and Audrey Hepburn. It was in this vibrant atmosphere that the rough stone was transformed into the elegant ring we see today.

Beyond its romantic history, The Bulgari Pink is a marvel of nature. Classified as a Type IIa diamond, a category representing fewer than 2% of all gem-quality diamonds, it is devoid of measurable impurities. Its refined rectangular step-cut and intense hue evoke the qualities of the legendary Golconda diamonds, long associated with royalty and historic prestige.

Having never before appeared at auction and remaining in the same family for over 70 years, this sale offers collectors a rare opportunity to acquire a “fresh” stone of impeccable lineage.

The Bulgari Pink will be on view to the public from 5 to 10 November before the Magnificent Jewels live auction. For those who appreciate the intersection of geology and history, it is a viewing not to be missed.
